Idaho Health Insurance

Idaho’s health status

Idaho health insurance

Idaho is a very healthy state, being ranked in the top ten (#8) of America’s Health Rankings, a list compiled by the United Health Foundation. It’s the first time Idaho is in the top ten (it was ranked 15th last year), but the great efforts that the state has made to improve their health status are easy to see. With low percentages of violent crimes (239 offenses per 100,000 population), air pollution (ranked seventh), infectious disease (4.5 cases per 100,000 people), and children under 18 living in poverty (ranked 9th in the nation), and a very good and strong public health funding ($113 per person), Iowa is a very healthy state and has a great family environment.

Some of the biggest strengths of Idaho’s health care system besides it’s excellent government funding are the very good rate of preventable hospitalizations (only 55.8 per 1,000 Medicare enrollees makes Idaho the fifth best in the nation), and their low cancer-related deaths percentage (180.2 per 100,000 population). The Premature death rate has been reduced significantly in a year, with 6,444 years lost per 100,000 population, and the occupational deaths rate has also lowered in the past year, being now at 4.7 deaths per 100,000 workers). Despite the slight increase in percentage of prevalence of Obesity and Binge drinking, their ranking has also been reduced in the past year. Overall, the country has increased the percentage of binge drinking and obesity, and despite Idaho also following this tendency, the increase is below what it was expected.

When it comes to Health Insurance, Idaho could do a bit better. Despite the great public funding, the percentage of the population that lacks health insurance is still high (14.7% of the population in Idaho lack health insurance). The immunization coverage percentage of children ages 19 to 35 months has also decreased in the past year, and is now the fifth worst in the nation. This means that despite great funding, and adequate Health Care available, it’s not accessible to everyone. Idaho also has the worst ranking of primary care physicians, with only 78.9 physicians per 100,000 population. These issues are vital and need to be looked upon, so the system can be more accessible. Adequate prenatal care could also be improved, as well as the infant mortality rate that increased slightly this past year.

Idaho is working extremely hard, and is now one of the healthiest places to live in the United States, with the best numbers and rankings ever for the state. As long as this tendency towards improving the health of the population of Idaho continues, things will be as bright as they are now.

Idaho health insurance information

About 85.3% of the citizens in Idaho have Health Insurance, despite the strong government funding, a low percentage. This means Idaho has adequate but not extremely accessible health plan, as 14.7% of the population in Idaho has no Health Insurance. The percentage of employers offering health insurance to employees is also low (it stands at 43.8%, one of the lowest percentages in the nation) and 79% of workers take the Health Insurance plans offered by their employers. More people need to have access to Health Insurance than the current number, and this can be achieved by revising the existing policies and plans in order to make them more accessible to the population.

Despite the strong public health funding, there is a very low rate of primary care physicians for the population (the worst in the nation). Idaho has a very good but not the most accessible health system, with an low percentage of population that could get medical care when needed (85%). The patients served by FQHCs as a percent of population under 200% FPL stands at 20.2%.
