Medicare Supplement Insurance, also known as “Medigap” insurance, provides supplemental health insurance coverage for Medicare beneficiaries. It’s a small, complementary plan that helps fill the voids and gaps that your original Medicare plan may have. There are twelve Medicare Supplemental Policies, labeled A-L, being A the most basic one, and the rest a combination of the core benefits (meaning Medigap A) plus one or more additional benefits. Plan J is the most complete (and expensive) Medigap plan. Again, the safest bet if you wish to obtain a Medigap plan, is to compare different companies.
Keep in mind that paying a higher premium for a standardized Medicare Supplemental insuranceplan will NOT get you anything more, as plans do not vary between companies.
